I lead with my heart and let my eye follow.
I take pictures with an open heart and it has always helped draw my subjects out into the photo. My goal is always to bring the spirit of that person out in the photo. I love this work and the people I get to serve by doing it. God blessed me with the ability to see more and I love to share that gift with my community. Prescott was the home of my grandparents, Joe and Barb Gorman, for many years but choosing to live here had to do with my spirit of independence and wanting to serve this amazing community.
Growing up in Portland, OR I had to learn a lot for myself. It's a weird place, as I'm sure you've heard. I never felt like i belonged there but I am glad to have learned all the lessons I did there. My wife and I feel somewhat like refugees here in this state, but have no fear...we washed Portland off when we got here!
Photography was a hobby and passion from youth but as I matured, I was determined to be a pilot. After a brain surgery that helped correct extreme vertigo, doctors wouldn't certify me for the FAA. I learned how to lose, how to adapt and how to solve more problems than I ever expected myself to. Those years taught me a lot and as I built my photography business I worked in special education and learned a great deal of perspective. My heart for people has given me many opportunities like weddings, work for countless non-profits, helping produce events. I was blessed to become the Sponsor Photographer for the Miss Oregon Scholarship Program (served 9 years), build calendars for Pink Sistas (breast cancer survivors group), photo booths for events...its all been a blessing.
Life is short. My camera is my version of a time machine and capturing a moment in the present is a gift, then delivering it to you in the future, allowing you to travel back in time to that beautiful moment. It is a powerful device and I use it responsibly. When I'm paid to take someone's photos, I am only the vessel of the images and don't always feel like they BELONG to me. The more meaningful the moment, the less it is about me. I always try to ensure every client recieves all of their images. Of course, that's after I review each image in the session and delete the ones I wouldn't want my name on. Each image gets some attention and I always balance my colors to the vision I have for the image. I love to include a variety of processes on one image when possible. I always leave room for client preference. If there's a style of photography you want me to pursue during our session, communication is never undermined from us.
I love my job. Solving visual problems constantly keeps me observant and I often see moments, details and angles differntly than many. I love people and it is one of the greatest joys in my life to deliver to my clients images they'll use, love and preserve!
My wife Andrea, and I are thrilled to begin a whole new adventure in Arizona. She's even a Realtor, in case you need a house or property!
